FINRA Electronic Fingerprint Submission (EFS)
This service is for registered Brokers and Broker-Dealer Representatives with a CRD number ONLY.
If you have an ORI number, you must book FDLE Live Scan fingerprinting instead.
What Is FINRA EFS?
FINRA EFS (Electronic Fingerprint Submission) is the official system used by FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) to collect and process fingerprints for individuals registering in the securities industry.
Instead of mailing fingerprint cards, fingerprints are captured digitally and submitted electronically through FINRA’s secure system using your CRD number.

If you are registering with FINRA, you must submit fingerprints through EFS.

They require fingerprint-based FBI background checks as part of registration.
When Do You Need FINRA EFS?
You need FINRA EFS if:
✅ You have a CRD number
✅ You are registering for Series exams
✅ You are becoming a registered representative
✅ Your firm instructed you to submit fingerprints via FINRA
✅ You are reactivating a FINRA license
If you have a CRD number — you need FINRA EFS.
CRD vs ORI
If you have:

A CRD number → You submit through FINRA EFS.
If you were given:

An ORI number → You submit through FDLE or another state system.
Even if you're in finance — if they give you an ORI instead of a CRD — you do NOT use FINRA EFS.
